Find me on the web!

Hey everyone!

I’m pretty new at this, but you can find me on MySpace and Facebook.

I have a YouTube channel, too! (Thanks to my assistant Sam!)

Of course, this is my home on the internet. You can always find me here – it’s great to spend time with the members in the chat room, and to read what you’re up to on the message boards. I’m working on answering your questions for the next video. Look for it soon!

Have a great day!

Shower power

Swap out your plastic shower curtain liner with a fabric liner for better air quality.

Plastic liners are made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride). PVCs cannot be recycled, and so must be dumped or incinerated – both of which are hazardous. When manufactured or incinerated, PVCs create dioxins, the most harmful man-made substance ever tested.

When PVCs are just hanging out in your bathroom (and they’re other places in your home, too) as a shower curtain liner, they outgass chlorine, which has been linked to children’s asthma (American Journal of Public Health, 1999) and bronchial problems (National Institute of Public Health, Oslo, Norway). You know that plastic smell? You don’t ever want to smell that.

Cloth liners are available at varying price points. The better ones are more expensive, and made from organic cotton or linen. There are less expensive ones available at chain discount stores.

Dry the liners by keeping the curtain open after a shower – and then closing it later in the day, to allow the whole curtain to be exposed to the (now drier) air. This is important for glass doors, too – especially the sliding ones. Keep them open to dry out the whole shower, then close them part way through the day, after the shower has dried, to allow the rest of the door to dry. As always, good bathroom ventilation will help prevent mildew.

Normal is killing us

It’s not enough to change for a short period of time and then go back to normal. Normal isn’t good enough anymore. Normal has to be changed.

Normal is what’s killing America. Normal is overeating, indulgence, sloth, and obesity. Normal is slumping in front of the computer or the tv or the video game console.

Normal gives you cancer, clogs your arteries, dries out your skin, slumps your back, makes you stink, makes you itch, makes you belch, and gives you gas.

Are you ready to create a NEW normal? Are you willing to make some changes – permanent changes – to regain your health and live a satisfying life? Try the 30 day online class here at Marilu.com. You get personalized coaching, daily menus, and best of all – you redefine normal.

Recreate your life. You deserve a better normal.

Antioxidant boosters

A few fruits that help keep you healthy…

Tart Cherries * Help reduce inflammation and regulate sleep patterns and biorhythms. Highest concentration of antioxidants is in tart cherry juice concentrate, then dried tart cherries. Canned and frozen don’t offer as much bang for your buck.

Blueberries * Fight cholesterol and promote urinary tract health. Wild blueberries are your best bet – they’re smaller than the ones you may be used to seeing in the produce section. Frozen and dried berries are as good as fresh.

Acai Berries * Fight cancer, heart disease, diabetes, inflammation, obesity, and age-related illnesses. Go for the flash-frozen acai berry pulp (check frozen foods) rather than juice blends.

Apples * Lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and protect against breast, colon, liver, and digestive cancers. May also benefit the brain and fight Alzheimer’s disease. (Yeah, that apple-a-day thing was dead-on.) Best source – in the peel! Also, Red Delicious apples have the most antioxidants – but any apple with a peel is better than no apple.

One more time…

It’s a holiday.

It’s likely that you’re overeating (or in this case, drinking).

Get up and move… one more time. Seriously.

Posture check!

Adjust your posture (now! and) throughout the day.

Stand erect.
Sit up straight.
Lighten up your bag, and switch it to the other side.
Walk tall.

Good posture creates the illusion of success, confidence, and instant weight loss – a triple threat! All three are incredibly sexy!

Top o’ the morning!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Everyone is Irish today (right?).

You know what time it is – time to get up from your computer and dance.

Really get into it. If you aren’t into dancing, walk/jog in place, then add in alternating knee lifts.

Wear your green and eat it, too

Honor the Irish (isn’t everyone Irish on St. Patrick’s Day?) along with your heart and waistline tomorrow. Focus your meals on healthy green fruits and veggies.

Here are a few suggestions to help spark some menu ideas:

grapes
pears
apples
kiwi
honeydew melons
spinach
soybeans/edamame
avocados
cucumbers
green beans
lettuces
green peppers
peas
cabbage
kale
broccoli
Brussels sprouts
zucchini
arugula

How many of these can you fit into your day?
