S-t-r-e-t-c-h

Before you get out of bed, s-t-r-e-t-c-h your body.

What better time to stretch than when you’re cozy and warm, still under the covers?

Stretch your body as though someone is pulling it from both ends. Spread your fingers and your toes and wiggle them around. Get on your stomach and stretch out as though you are being pulled in five directions (each arm, each leg, and your head). Then curl up in a ball like a cat, and then stretch again.

The whole thing will take less than 2 minutes, and you’ll feel limber as you start your day. Don’t forget to take in lots of oxygen with a big yawn.

A kiester-friendly Easter

Focus this Easter weekend on a new, healthier holiday tradition of lighter food and healthier activities.

Instead of the usual baked ham or lamb, how about serving a grilled fish like salmon, snapper, or halibut with a variety of healthy steamed vegetables?

And make this holiday less about the food and more about the fun, traditional activities like coloring eggs, having an Easter egg hunt, or walking in the parade.

Stay away from the candy – especially the yellow marshmallow chicks and family-sized milk chocolate rabbits. (You know, the ones with the teeth marks in them.)

If you’re filling Easter baskets, choose some non-candy items, like colorful t-shirts or tank tops, socks, a CD, lip balm or lip gloss, toy cars, small dolls, a stuffed animal, books, jewelry, new toothbrush, seed packets, etc. You don’t have to spend a lot of money, and you can find things for all ages.

36-hour solution

When you have a tough decision to make, allow 36 hours to pass before choosing which way to go. It’s amazing how much clearer your perspective can be after such a short time. Thirty-six hours seems to be the magic amount of time for being able to assess a situation without having your feelings overwhelm you.

Spring holidays

Passover (pesach) starts tonight at sunset, and continues for 8 days. Passover celebrates the Israelites’ escape to freedom from their Egyptian oppressors during the reign of the Pharaoh Ramses II in 1134 BCE. Each aspect of the Passover celebration symbolizes and recreates that historic journey. It’s a time for families to celebrate, observe specific rituals, and share in the lavish and symbolic Seder meal.

A happy and blessed pesach to our Jewish friends!

This song has nothing to do with Passover, but it’s in the klezmer style (a type of Jewish music), and it’s performed by Itzhak Perlman. What’s not to like?

Get up and move – enjoy the energy and vitality of spring!

Wear Your Life Well
Use What You Have To Get What You Want
by Marilu Henner with Lorin Henner

What I’ve come to realize is that the key to wearing your life well is to fully understand what you have and, equally important, know what you want. You have to take a profound look at your dreams, goals, and aspirations, followed by a good, hard look at your assets, resources, liabilities, and talents. And then, you have to find a way to bridge the gap between the two — while learning to enjoy the adventure!

~ Marilu Henner, Wear Your Life Well

It’s not enough just to live—you have to wear your life well! Learn how in this inspiring guide from New York Times bestselling author and beloved actress Marilu Henner.

Ten years after actress Marilu started her bestselling Total Health Makeover series, she’s in better shape than ever—at peak health, working with a very active online community at Marilu.com, and celebrating life with her new husband, whom she helped to put his cancer in remission. Now she’s back with an inspiring guide to making your life work for you, whatever your age or condition.

Are you happy? Are you living the life you want, or are you living for other people? Are you guided by your own plans or by the design of others? Do you see your life as a daily grind, or are you eager to face each day and every new challenge? Do you get along well with your family, friends, relatives, and coworkers, or do you harbor anger, resentment, or guilt? Are you working toward a dream, or are you daydreaming about not working? In essence, do you Wear Your Life Well?

With the verve of a teenager and the wisdom of a sage, Marilu breaks down all the elements in our lives—our minds, our bodies, and the world around us—that can sabotage our progress, and helps us discover the best in ourselves. She pinpoints the often surprising ways we are compromising our lives and offers smart, sensible, healthy alternatives. And Marilu also includes a Booty Camp Life Blitz—a five-day jumpstart that uses the principles in the book in a very specific, directed way to get you a fresh start on the path to optimal wellness. So whether you need a major life change or simply want fresh ideas on improving your life, let Marilu be your cheerleader, muse, and guide.

This is the day we dry our clothes

I know – we wash and dry the laundry on the same day. At least we try to do it that way. Here are more tips for “greener” laundry.

  • Skip the dryer sheets. If you use them, cut them in half.
  •
  • Wash your dryer’s lint filter with soap and water, and rinse well. Dryer sheets and fabric softeners build up on the lint screen, and prevent good airflow.
  •
  • Blow out your dryer hose every year. Disconnect it from your dryer, and use an air compressor, leaf blower, or even a heavy duty hair dryer to push any lint through the hose. It helps to get gravity on your side – blow from the top down.
  •
  • While the dryer hose is disconnected, clean out any lint you see from the back of the dryer. This helps prevent fires in your dryer (which are more common than you might think).
  •
  • Use a folding wooden dryer rack, and hang clothes to dry whenever possible. Some clothes can easily be dried halfway in the dryer, and then hung to dry the rest of the way.
  •
  • Put in a clothesline outside. There’s nothing like the smell of line-dried linens and clothes. If you don’t like the stiffness, fluff for a few minutes in the dryer before hanging or folding.
