Hot, hip Hollywood tips

If you’re out and feel greasy and you don’t have powder or blotters or anything else that can take the shine away, hit the ladies’ room and blot your face with (seriously) a toilet seat cover.

If you want to create a lip color for yourself and know what colors you love to use, put all the colors in a microwave-safe container and turn on the microwave for 10-15 seconds to get it soft and mushy. Stir the softened colors together and let it cool in the fridge until it’s hardened. Use a lip brush to apply.

If your powdered eye shadow, blush, or face powder falls down and cracks, don’t despair and throw it away. Just pour a tiny amount of 99% alcohol (rubbing alcohol) into the mix, let it dry, and your makeup will be good as new.

Video from my club act!

So a month or so ago I premiered my club act. Something I’ve been dying to do forever! Here’s a little taste of of one of my numbers. You may see a couple special guests in there… (Nicky my son, and Lorin my brother!!!) Special thanks to my sister for the video!

Don’t lose your mind

Keep a small notebook and pencil with you at all times. Write down thoughts, ideas, questions, shopping lists, memos, and reminders that pop into your head throughout the day. This is a useful and simple organizational tool for work, inspiration, and everyday life.

Of course, you can adapt this idea to the digital age. If you’re already carrying a PDA or a phone that has memo/task capabilities, then by all means learn to use them – and use them all the time. If you need to synchronize your PDA/phone with your computer, make that part of your daily routine.

Ingredient of the week * Greens

Most of us are familiar with one variety of greens – spinach. Southerners probably know a few more varieties – turnip greens, beet greens, and collards, perhaps.

But no more – there’s plenty of love to go around and there are plenty of greens to love!!!

The peak season for greens is winter through early spring, so don’t delay! They grow best in cooler (but not cold) temps, so your farmer’s market probably has them now.

Dark, leafy greens are a good source of Vitamins A and C, and calcium, all at just 20-30 calories per cup. They even have significant iron, but it’s best absorbed when the greens are cooked and have some ascorbic acid (citrus) with them. It’s easy enough to squirt some lemon juice on steamed greens – there you go! Lots of nutrition, lots of flavor. Who could ask for anything more?

Click on Read More to see a list of dark, leafy greens with alternate names and substitutes – followed by recipes! Yes – delicious, nutritious recipes! C’mon – branch out from that spinach salad!

In honor of Booty Camp…

…how about some booty moves?

As Marilu.com members start their second week of Booty Camp, you can get working on your own booty.

Best moves to shape your bum? Lunges and squats. Today we’ll do squats – to some amazing music.

  1. Start with your feet hip distance apart, with your toes pointing forward.
  2. Bend your knees and push your butt back, as though you’re sitting into a chair. Your knees should not go forward further than your toes. Try to get to a 90-degree angle (but don’t worry if you don’t).
  3. As you come back up to standing, squeeze your butt, and tuck it under when you get to the top.
  4. You can lightly hold a chair for support, or push your hands forward as you go down. Advanced? Hold a weight in both hands, and push it forward as you go down. Keep the weight just below shoulder level.

Do 2 sets of 15, then change your stance.

  • 2nd stance – feet just wider than shoulder distance apart, toes pointing forward. Do 2 sets of 15, then change your stance.
  • 3rd stance – turn toes out and repeat. Make sure your knees also point in the new direction of your feet, and still don’t go forward further than your toes. Do 2 sets of 15.

Enjoy the music – and enjoy your new booty!

Happy, Happy Mother’s Day!

I hope you are all going to have a great day as a mom, with a mom, or even, in spite of a mom! There is no greater experience I’ve ever had than being a mom, and I’m sure most of you can relate.

Take the time today to honor your mom AND the mom in YOU. I always wish my mom could know my boys, so those of you with moms, grandmothers, or even mothers-in-law, please be grateful that you have this opportunity for your kids to know the family matriarch, hard as it may be at times.

I wanted to share two pictures of me being a mom – one of the roles of my life, and the most rewarding one of all. No matter what else is going on in my life, it’s important for me to spend time with my boys. Nicky and Joey, I love being your mom!
