Fitness Friday * Bottoms up!

Do you want a better looking behind? Start working on your rear view for great buns all summer.

  • Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor, arms at your sides.
  • Lift your booty 3 to 6 inches off the floor by tilting your pelvis up, squeezing your glutes (buttocks), and tightening your abdominals (stomach). Do the movement slowly and with control, focusing on the muscles.
  • Hold that position for a few seconds, and then slowly lower down one vertebrae at a time.
  • Go for 2 sets of 12 reps.

Got the basic move mastered? Increase the challenge by balancing one heel on top of the other knee or by extending one leg out straight during the lift (alternate sets from one side to the other).

Day 5 of Marilu’s free MEMORY class

So much to talk about!

Whirlwind trip to NY this week, meetings and an event for Prince Edward and his wife at The Pierre Hotel. My life is moving fast this summer. Last week I spent an entire day at UC Irvine being memory tested. I can’t believe I’m right at the epicenter of all the latest and greatest scientific and medical memory information. I’m just so glad this is all happening while I’m alive and can contribute to the data. Very exciting!

I have got to get into a new routine now that my schedule is so different. I’m definitely a morning workout person, and if I don’t do it before I start the rest of my day, it’s such a struggle to find the time later on. Tomorrow I have to make sure to speed walk at least two miles in the morning.

Thanks everyone for participating in this class. I always learn so much from you.

Today’s memory question is (an oldie, but goodie) …

Red Carpet interview from the Actors’ Fund Tony Awards Party

Marilu hosted the Actors’ Fund Tony Awards party on Sunday, June 12, 2011.

You can see Marilu’s husband Michael and her son Nick (and his girlfriend) in the background.

Featured recipe from Marilu’s table * Summer beverages

  • Summer smoothie-shake * Blend your favorite fruit with Soy Delicious ice cream or Coconut Bliss ice cream or Rice Dream ice cream. Add fresh fruit garnish.
  • Fresh juice * Freshly squeezed oranges or grapefruits make a great beverage, or make your own lemonade by adding agave nectar and water to freshly squeezed lemons.
  • Sizzle-buster spritzers * Mix those freshly squeezed juices or pomegranate juice with sparkling mineral water for a natural spritzer bursting with flavor. Crush some ice and add fresh fruit for a slushy thirst-quenching summer taste.
  • Floating dreams * Make your own natural floats using sarsaparilla or fruit-juice sweetened root beer with vanilla Soy Delicious or Rice Dream ice cream.
  • Apple cider crush * Mix apple juice, apple cider, and crushed ice to make a mock (and rum-free) colonial beverage. Add some grated nutmeg and a fresh cinnamon stick for extra flavor.
  • Knudsen natural spritzers * Garnish with real fruit.
  • Spring water, natural or carbonated * Garnish with fresh fruits, especially raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries for a patriotic flair.
  • Patriotic soy shake * Mix raspberries, blueberries, and vanilla soy ice cream (or use rice or coconut ice cream) with crushed ice in a blender and whip it up. Add some fresh fruit – and maybe a little flag on the Fourth of July or Bastille Day – to garnish.

It’s day 4 of Marilu’s free MEMORY class right here!

Just walked in the door after being gone since early this morning.

What a day!

Got a lot done, but there’s never enough time for all of it, is there? Anyway, I only have time to post the question du jour, so here it goes …

Check out Marilu’s free memory class here!

Crazy, crazy day, but all’s well that ends well! Crazy! Anyway, another busy day planned for today.

I’m now on staff as a consultant for the new CBS show Unforgettable and I’ve been meeting with some of the writers and actors! The interest in this memory work is just amazing, even to the point of creating a new series! I’m sure I’ll have lots more to share as this unfolds so stay connected.

Anyway, I’ve got to get this to you guys so here’s the memory question du jour …

Get moving * Body & mind!

You wanna make a memory? You wanna steal a piece of time?

Not every memory is about love, but maybe the ones that stick with us (if we don’t have Marilu’s memory) are the ones that include the people we love. Who is part of your memories? Who do you want to make memories with?

Move while you listen, mkay? Up out of your chair! You can walk in place while you think about your memories.

It’s Day 2 of Marilu’s free memory class

Started the day at 5:15 am with the most bizarre dream about my niece’s ex-husband, only to wake up to an email from her about him! I love when things like that happen! As Dr. Sharon always said, “The unconscious mind knows EVERYTHING!”

I was on Good Day L.A. a couple weeks ago to talk about my hosting the Tony viewing party for the Actor’s Fund, but they wanted to talk about memory, which seems to be the case most of the time lately. I’m happy people are so enthusiastic, and since the airing of the 60 Minutes segment there’s been a huge amount of interest in my upcoming book.

Life is so busy but I absolutely have to find the time to hunker down and write!!!

So great to read all of the posts! And today’s memory question is …

Take a free MEMORY class with Marilu starting today!

Hi everyone! There was such an incredible response to the 60 Minutes piece. Thank you all for watching and for your questions and comments. Researchers believe that studying those of us with Superior Autobiographical Memory can very likely lead to discoveries that can help the population at large, both in developing our mental abilities and possibly treating patients with impaired memory function. It’s all very exciting.

This summer I led a class in the member’s area on developing memory skills. It was a lot of fun and the response was so positive that we’re going to run it here this week.

Check in each day to get the question of the day. Be sure to post your answers and check back in to view feedback. You might be surprised at what you discover about yourself.

So my question for the day is …

What do you remember about …

What do you remember about your high school graduation?

Did you have a class song?
    Who was valedictorian and salutatorian?
    Did you toss your caps?
    Who did you sit by?
Who did you process in and out with?
Was there a class party afterward?
What did you wear under your gown?
Did you get any gifts that were special?

Thinking about your past and bringing memories to the forefront is a good brain exercise. The more you think about your high school graduation, the more details you’ll probably remember.

You’re making connections in your brain, strengthening the pathways of information flow. It’s kind of like defragmenting your hard drive on your computer, or organizing your file cabinet (if you’re not as geeky) or closet (if you’d rather think in terms of clothes).

Go ahead – think about your high school graduation, no matter how long ago it was. You’ll have stories for your next class reunion.

Learn more about memory from Marilu herself!
