skin brushing lesson
Marilu describes skin brushing in The Total Health Makeover, chapter 11.
Start every day by dry skin brushing! Skin brushing removes the top layer
of dead skin cells, tightens the skin, stimulates your lymph system, and
helps reduce cellulite. Use a natural bristle skin brush (available at health
food stores, and bath/body product stores). Synthetic fibers (such as
nylon) will only irritate your skin - get the natural bristles! If your
morning starts with exercise, then skin brush before you dress for exercise,
and you'll sweat from every pore, cleansing your body of toxins. If your
morning starts with a shower or bath, then skin brush before you get wet,
and then rinse off those dead skin cells!
Brush your dry skin in an elongated motion toward your heart for
1-2 minutes every morning. Start with your feet and ankles, and work your
way up the body to your calves and thighs. Really concentrate on brushing
the lymphatic areas of your body (the backs of your knees, your inner
thighs, under your arms, and inside your elbows) to stimulate those
glands and get them started on flushing toxins. Gently brush up your
stomach and tush, shoulders and back. Last, do your hands and move up
your arms. Make sure you cover the entire surface of your body, excluding
your breasts and face. The brushing should not irritate you. It may
take a couple of days to get used to it, but if you hang in there, I
promise you will feel the difference in your skin in less than a week.
