Emily/Emmyguns - THM Success Story
My THM journey began Oct of 1998. I finally figured out that dairy was making me sick. Every time I ate it I was in the bathroom immediately. It can ruin a night out with friends or a special date. I also had a big scare and went for a colonoscopy- at age 23! Thank goodness it showed nothing abnormal. It was enough for me to make a big change. I decided to do some research and one day at the book store while sitting on the floor with all kinds of diet/health books around me I found Marilu’s book and read the dairy chapter and then the "what’s the poop" chapter. Not a pleasant topic, I know, but when I read the blue book and felt like Marilu was talking to me. Word for word.

So I got up on my soapbox and told anyone who would listen- and those that didn’t want to got an earful anyway all about how my life had changed. I lost weight – 10 pounds-that was a lot for me. I was 145-150 and had wanted to get back to around 135-140. I did- with almost no thought at all. And my face was not so round. But for me it wasn’t a weight issue. It was taking control of my life. Not needing to immediately locate a bathroom when I went somewhere for "just in case." My life was my own.

I continued to THM – planned a fairly THM wedding (no dairy in the cake!) and three months after getting married was pregnant and THMed my way through a very blessed, easy pregnancy. I admit, I have slacked here and there but I have stuck to the basics for almost five years now. Marilu’s right when she says it is NOT a diet- it’s a way of life and it’s my way of life now too.

I have also gotten very involved with the online community. At first it was a strange experience, feeling so close to people I have never met. But like life changes- when you find a kindred spirit you have a bond that not many understand till they live it too.

Also meeting Marilu and seeing how dedicated she is to the program and the people- it makes me more excited. She’s a good example to follow. I hope I am too. My daughter and husband live the THM lifestyle (for the most part.) I am slowly working on the rest of my family. I guess I am a THM disciple. Proud of it.
