Lee - THM Success Story
Dear Marilu,
Your THM book may have saved my life. At the very least, Iım a new person thanks to you.
In 1999 I was on my way to a health breakdown. I was eating the "SAD" Standard American Diet, as I had my entire life. I never had a weight problem, but I wasnıt healthy. I was actually thin, but it was a painfully frail kind of thin. I had adult acne -- more than when I was a teenager. I ate a lot of cookies and sweet snacks. I was becoming lactose intolerant. Everyone asked me when I'd recover from that flu I was fighting - when I wasn't even sick. Must have been my complexion, dark circles and allergies. Then I went to Thailand in December 1999, and had two terrible cases of food poisoning. I took Ciprofloxan as the "cure" for that. By the time I returned to the states, my digestive system was in total revolt. I couldn't eat any dairy products, I passed enough gas to power a small village. I couldn't digest anything with sugar or animal fats in it. If it wasn't a vegetable, it made me sick. My doctor said the cilia in my intestines had been scrubbed raw by the food poisoning and the broad-spectrum antibiotics. But he didn't have any useful advice except to eat bland food.
So I started looking for answers. On the web, I found a mention of your books. I ordered THM on Amazon that day, and when it arrived, it was a revelation. I read it in a day. I started food-combining. I did a cleanse, and took probiotics. I eliminated dairy! (Finally, I had found a mentor who showed me it was cool to give up dairy, despite all the propaganda from the "milk moustache" ads and dairy apologists.) I phased out red meat. I bought organic. I basically rebuilt my intestines over the course of a year. And at the same time, my skin cleared, my seasonal allergies diminished, I slept better, I had more energy, I was less moody, and just plan nicer and happier. It wasn't just my digestion that changed, my whole outlook had become healthier, kinder, more enlightened. Now I'm 38, and I think I've actually grown younger, and feel so much better, than I did back in 1999. My weight is about the same, but my bodyfat percentage dropped 3 points. My parents have high cholesterol, but mine is textbook perfect.
Since then, I've taken my eating habits several steps further, having eliminated nearly all animal products from my diet. I started baking my own non-dairy desserts from scratch in 2000, and from my love of desserts, created a whole new business to show others they can transition to healthier eating habits via my own focus, dessert -- making organic dairy-free whole-grain baking mixes (because I couldn't find any on the market). Now I have two full-time careers, my graphic design company and the organic baking mix business, but I have the energy to handle it, and I have the drive to pursue my goals, particularly after having been through this health odyssey, and wanting to help all the other "SAD" people discover how great unprocessed "real" foods can be. Iım sure Iım a terrible bore to some, but I also try to be a good example. Especially to my mom, whoıs in cancer remission and really needs a THM.
I feel tremendous gratitude to you for showing me, so beautifully, the path to better health. And I wanted to tell you, and this wonderfully supportive community, just how great, how life-changing THM can be.
