Shelagh - THM Success Story
Before I learned of THM in 1998, I was the type of person who needed a pot of coffee to be brewing before I could muster the energy to get out of bed. Not only did I rely on caffeine to wake me up but my breakfast choices were, more often than not, a sugary Danish or donut - or both! I figured this was a normal way to start the day. I considered myself fit because I exercised and I ate relatively well most of the time.
I saw Marilu on an episode of the Rosie O'Donnell Show and I was amazed at her great physique. She was talking faster than the speed of light but what she had to say was compelling and she looked incredible. Really, though, I was more interested in how fabulous she looked and her energy level and I thought I would try her program to see the results for myself. I still had a 'diet' mentality.
I gave up dairy, and some meat, and tried food combining, and saw some results, but it wasn't until I tried the 30 Day Total Health Makeover in January 2000 that I realized how the 10 steps truly made a difference. I had this amazing surge of energy in the second week of the program. I mean, I was bounding out of bed without caffeine or sugar! I soon realized that what I ate the day before really affected how well I slept and how great I felt the next morning. I lost 13 pounds in 5 weeks and slimmed down from a Size 10 to a Size 4.
In March of that year I became pregnant for the second time and this pregnancy was so much healthier than my first. I gained 30 pounds during this pregnancy as opposed to 50 from my first. I had oodles of energy and delivered a healthy boy naturally in November. All through it, I never felt I was missing out on any food. I found great satisfaction in the soy substitutes for dairy, and meat just didn't appeal to me anymore.
What I have learned through my progression is that eliminating dead foods from your diet doesn't deprive you. It revives you. I don't count calories and I don't beat myself up if I don't follow all THM 100% of the time. I still have a weakness for sugar but try to limit to 'legal' sugars. When I don't, well, my body's reaction is clear. I am more aware of how food affects moods, energy level, headaches, sleep and digestion.
