Congrats to Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and P!nk for their Grammy awards and standout performances last Sunday. Performances like those demand vocal and physical fitness. You may not be singing from a spinning trapeze thing like P!nk, or running up and down the stairs like Beyonce, or dancing like Gaga – but imagine what you could do in your own life if you were as fit as they are.

Our epic Party Hearty Super Bowl class returns! Starting Monday, February 1, take five days with coach SusalMikYUM to get ready for the party you’re throwing or attending on Sunday.

Hey, we know not everyone does the Super Bowl party thing – but everyone does a bit of entertaining, or needs a few good ideas for hors d’oeuvres or snacks… and nearly everyone needs man-friendly food that is not junk. (We love our men, and we want them around in good health!) This class will help you with all of that.

Here’s a little song to get you in the mood for football. Or dancing in the kitchen. Or both. Let’s not make the whole week a spectator sport – get moving!

We all need somebody…

Today’s exercise music is targeted to gentler movement – yoga, Pilates, stretching, or maybe even your warm up or cool down.

It’s also a reminder that no matter what you’re doing, it’s okay to gather a support team and help each other out in meeting your inTENtions.

If you’re trying to lose weight, or stay committed to a fitness program, or quit smoking, or quit eating junk food, it’s good to have people to talk to. People who will be honest when you need a kick in the pants, and people who will be there to remind you that everyone hits a plateau or feels lazy or wants to just give up.

We have that at Marilu.com, and you’re invited to be a part of it. You’ll be a valuable part of someone else’s support team – and you’ll get the support you need, too.

And of course, it’s also a reminder to continue to support the relief effort in Haiti. This is a great album for a reasonable price and it all goes to the Hope for Haiti Now charities.

So start the music, do your stretches, and consider who you need – and who needs you.

Everything but the kitchen sink

Get moving.

Move every part of your body.
Kick or lift those legs – front, side, and back.
Squat and lunge to build those thighs.
Shake your booty and wiggle your hips.
Lift your arms overhead, then circle them front and back.
Roll your head to use that neck.

Because this is every (well, a lot of them, anyway) hit song from 2009.

Stop thinking; start doing

Don’t overthink your exercise and fitness routine.

Just Do It. (thanks, Nike)

If you stop and think about it, you will find 10,000 reasons for NOT doing it. There’s always something that needs to be cleaned, or a project you haven’t finished, or a kid who needs your attention. It will still be there for you to clean or finish or attend to when you’re done exercising.

Don’t think about it – just start, and 30 minutes later, you can get back to the rest of your life.

Be the animal you were meant to be

Take a look at who you see walking around the shopping mall or in line at the movie theater. What do you see when you’re at an airport? Do these people look healthy to you? Really take a good look around, and I think you’ll be hard-pressed to find a truly vibrant, healthy person, someone who has skin that’s tight and smooth, alert eyes, positive mental energy, and a look of real physical fitness. As human beings we have taken ourselves so far away from our natural instincts. We don’t walk around with good posture, we carry excess baggage (physical and emotional) like it was designer luggage. We eat completely unnatural foods for our bodies, and basically live a very different lifestyle from the one we were intended to live.

Okay, not what you were expecting, maybe?

Think about it. If you didn’t get up and MOVE, after awhile your muscles would atrophy and you wouldn’t be able to move.

Your body was meant to be in motion. It works better, feels better, and looks better when it gets enough movement.

Get up – do it now – and move. This song works for the treadmill or stair climber, as well as for dancing it out.
