Maybe it’s the warmer weather; maybe it’s the fact that we love our fitness classes and miss them on our days off; maybe it’s just the way some days pile it on and we need to let.it.all.out. (Ever have those days? Yeah. We do, too.)
So here’s an epic (and gloriously long) song from Meatloaf (who, coincidentally, had one of those days on Celebrity Apprentice last week). Dare you to dance the whole thing. Don’t panic; it’s almost written for an interval workout!
It’s Friday. Get your groove on! Yes, we count sex as exercise (as long as it’s active). Start with some partner dancing, and let it take you further. Make it romantic and fun.
Work your obliques! Obliques are part of your abdominal core, so making them strong helps with your total core strength. They also make your waist look smaller when they’re toned.
Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet on the floor. Rest your head in your hands, but keep your shoulders back and relaxed (like you’re going to do a sit-up).
Raise just one shoulder blade up while pressing the other to the floor. As you raise up, twist to move your elbow in the direction of your opposite knee, squeezing from your abs and waist. Press your back firmly to the floor throughout the movement — don’t let it arch.
Slowly lower your shoulder blade to the floor and repeat.
Do two sets of eight to 12 repetitions per side.
Look hot in your bathing suit!
Of course, you can firm up those obliques with dance, too. Remember The Twist? (Maybe not, but you can still do it!)
Today’s song is a small show of thanks to Chef Ryan for sharing his foodie expertise with us these past two weeks in the Mix It Up March online class. It may seem like an unusual choice, but Ryan’s been around THMers for over a decade, and he knows we talk about all kinds of things here – including thongs.
For you? It’s time to get up and get moving. Use the song to motivate you as you pick up your office before leaving for the weekend, or to get you to “shake that thing” as you prepare dinner.
Just make that booty go! Swivel your hips, shake what your momma gave you, move your ass-ets.
Maybe the weather has kept you holed up inside.
Maybe your job has kept you chained to a desk or workstation.
Maybe you’ve been feeling sick.
Maybe you’re stuck in a rut.
Today is the day to get your wiggles out, express yourself artistically, feel your potential, use your muscles. Today is the day to DANCE.
This tune is by the son of member Leenie. We’re excited to share it with you.
We’re mixing it up for spring in the current online class here at Marilu.com (join now and you’ll still get in on the class!).
In the spirit of mixing it up, we’re sharing one of our favorite songs of all time (yes, really – we’ve loved it since it was first released in the 1970′s!). This song is just crazy-fun. Sure, you can exercise to it, or clean to it, or dance to it. But we just sing along badly and laugh, and that’s good, too.
Marilu says, “Everything is connected to everything.”
People are connected, too, and not just through social media and the amazing world wide web. What we eat depends on what is planted in fields around the world. What we wear depends on what is made in factories around the world. Everything we purchase requires a global effort.
Our sisters and brothers in Japan are dealing with so much loss and devastation, and we will be feeling it around the world for years to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with them now, as they face the lack of food and water, the loss of friends and family and home and jobs.
Get running… or walking, anyway – whatever your fast pace is.
It’s time to stop strolling and start rolling along.
If the sidewalks and running tracks aren’t clear and dry where you are, then find an indoor track. Check the local Y or fitness center for a track, or speedwalk at the mall. We like actually moving better than a treadmill, but those are good, too – plus you know exactly how fast you’re going, and you can make it go faster!
That’s today’s plan – move faster. Challenge yourself to pick up the pace. Run like a river!
