Healthy Holidays

“THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT HEALTHY HOLIDAYS ARE ULTIMATELY THE MOST SATISFYING AND REWARDING HOLIDAYS.”

Marilu Henner, Healthy Holidays

(We hope you’ll stay connected through the remainder of the month.  There’s nothing like community to keep us focused on our goals.)

Be present

This quote by Jim Elliot has a lot of bearing on our chosen healthy lifestyle.  By simplifying our lives in our recent Hot for the Holidays class we’ve hopefully allowed more space to be in the moment and not in a mental rush to the next task or event.  We can develop better memory and mental accuity by paying attention to the moment we’re living. (There’s a lot more on this topic in Marilu’s upcoming book Total Memory Makeover, available for pre-order at the top of this page.)

“WHEREVER YOU ARE—BE ALL THERE.”

Jim Elliot

STILL (and ever) GRATEFUL

Because we’re thankful for each one of you, and this amazing on-line community we’re going to revisit a tip from Coach Robbie in her recent “Ever Grateful” class:

“….honest assessment can make you grateful for what you have and also show you where you can be more selective. Send anything toxic to the compost heap.”
This lines up so well with the simplicity we’re talking about in our current “Hot for the Holidays” class.  Shine a light into the corners and find what needs to go.  Dump the drama, the insecurities, the overly scheduled calendar.  Honest assessment can be a true blessing.
Simplify your life and enjoy the freedom it brings.

Adversity at the Buffet Table

In a few days most of us will face mounds of food.  And many of us will face the proud family members who created those mounds of food.  You may have made some lifestyle changes since the last time you were together with friends and family.  We’re not suggesting that you forego the feast and huddle up with the raw veggies.  Everyone has a little cheat now and then so if you want to taste that pie and it won’t set you off on a binge, go ahead.  Keep in mind though, that if you want to say “no thanks” to something that you (or your doctor) have determined is not good for you…then stand firm.  Enjoy the company, enjoy the healthy dish that you brought, and keep your eye on your ultimate goals.  We’re going to get lofty and quote George Patton today:

“YOU NEED TO OVERCOME THE TUG OF PEOPLE AGAINST YOU AS YOU REACH FOR HIGH GOALS.”

Celebrate Your Victory

“Life is a positive-sum game. Everyone from the gold medallist to the last finisher can rejoice in a personal victory.”George Sheehan

Everyone has a victory they can celebrate.  List at least five today!  Post them on the boards to encourage others.  And you don’t have to stop at five.

Food for Thought

This may not apply to every situation in your life but it will surely apply to many that you will face this week.  Stay focused, stay determined.
…”Determination, patience and courage are the only things needed to improve any situation.” ~Anon

EVER GRATEFUL

Tomorrow begins our new class “Ever Grateful” with Coach Robbie.  Take the time to focus on that for which you’re grateful today and then join us tomorrow to learn more about how to nurture and increase that attitude.

Attention Must Be Paid

No we’re not talking about Willie Loman in Death of a Salesman.  (Okay we alluded to that but that was just to get your attention of course.)

The subject of memory is a hot topic here and we’re all anxious for Marilu’s next book.  With that in mind, on this Sunday be present and in the moment.  No one is more in the moment than Marilu.  Make that connection and take time to savor the day.

“The true art of memory is the art of attention.”

Samuel Johnson
